Ratti (1914-1945) was born in Waukegan to Finnish immigrant parents, Victor Ratti (1886-1933) and Hilja Touminen Ratti (1889-1962). </p><p>The first Finns came to Waukegan in 1891 to work at the Washburn and Moen Wire Mill. When Victor Ratti arrived in 1906, he also found work at the wire mill, then owned by American Steel and Wire. </p><p>From a young age, Reima V. Ratti had an affinity for art and observation, taking in the sights and sounds of a growing and diverse city.
